How to achieve success without losing yourself in the process

I can feel it, and I’m sure you can too. I can feel that overwhelming feeling of getting pulled to download every online freebie, try every strategy, and mimic other successful entrepreneurs.

A few weeks ago, I found myself sucked into this vicious circle that pulled me in without even noticing, and I ended up losing a bit of myself in the process.

I was confused by the different methodologies, diverse approaches to deal with my business during this pandemic, and the opposing views on what to do or what not to do. I became paralyzed! I’m sure many of you are more than familiar with this sensation.

Information can get very overwhelming, especially when it replaces implementation. We are consuming information, meaning that we hear/listen/read it once and then it vanishes, when what we should be doing instead is integrating information. Integrating can be summarized in:

  1. Receive information: read/listen/watch

  2. Process it: revisit the information and find the bits that are useful for you

  3. Make it your own: translate the information into words and tactics you feel in alignment with

  4. Take action on it: integration comes full circle when you can implement what you’ve learned in an authentic way, it’s then when you know you have learned something new

I realized then that the block that kept me from acting happened because I fell into the trap of consuming instead of integrating. The reason behind it was that instead of trusting myself and playing to my strengths, I was consuming what other people said and mimicking their actions because I believed they had the key to my own growth! Gross mistake!

YOU are YOUR key to success, nobody else.

There's is no strategy that fits all, there is only what works for you and to make it happen you have to test and tweak and trust your intuition until you get it right. Trying to imitate what other people do will only take you so far until you burn out because you haven't integrated the strategy and made it your own.

We all have different traits and personalities, trying to put yourself into a mold you don't fit just because it worked for someone else will achieve nothing. Whereas assessing what quirks about your personality and what peculiar traits make you stand out will allow you to create a strategy that is in alignment with who you are as a person and as a business owner.

Once this became clear, I knew that all I needed to move forward was to pull back, go back to basics, and trust myself. Ironically... In other words, BEING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF is the only thing required of you to be successful.

Here are some key things that really helped me make the shift. Be mindful that you integrate instead of consuming ;)

  • Clients hire you not your package: If you are a service-based business, chances are there are a thousand people that offer something similar to you. BUT, there is only one you! People hire your services because you are behind them, trust yourself as much as your clients trust you!

  • Everyone needs a different teacher: You are doing a disservice to your potential clients by trying to be like other people. People need you because of your unique traits and quirks. If you hide the things that make you special to fit in, your voice will get lost in the crowd. Own who you are and boldly express it. What makes you peculiar?

  • The odds of you being born as you are about 1 in 400 trillion: The combination of events that have led up to you being here as you are today is almost impossible to conceive. You are here for a reason! Don’t waste it by trying to deny who you are at your core.

  • Being authentic = consistency: One of the worst things that you could do for yourself and your business is to stick to something you don’t feel aligned with. You being you, playing with what you’ve got, and making the most of it is a lot easier to maintain in time than trying to do things that are not in alignment with your personality and strengths.

  • Redefine success: this could be an entire post of its own but in simple words don’t follow other’s ideas of success; design your own. What does success mean to you?

For me personally, success means being able to create income and impact by simply being my genuine and peculiar self and helping others achieve the same. To achieved this I’ve worked on:

  • Having absolute confidence in myself by deeply understanding my strengths my weaknesses, and what makes me unique and special

  • Having total clarity in my messaging by being intentional and conscious about my mission, my vision my values and my ideal clients

  • Harnessing the power of human connection through my brand by showing up as myself every day and attracting the people I love to connect with to make a difference in the world

The moment you embrace your authentic self instead of suppressing it, magic flows. You wouldn’t let magic go to waste, so don’t do the same with yourself.

Someone out there is waiting for you to be you! Connect with the most authentic version of yourself, and don’t keep them waiting!

Be authentic, be bold, be courageous, be PECULIAR.

What do authenticity and success mean to you?
